Top 5 Yoga Poses to Try in Your Hot Tub
Hot tubs and yoga are great methods of recovery, but combining the two activities is the perfect match.
Both hot tubs and yoga have been known to reduce stress, relieve pain, and increase mobility, so why not do them together? In fact, participating in hot tub yoga can have stress-relieving benefits and offers a low-impact, high-mobility style of yoga that you can’t get traditionally. The warmth of the water and buoyancy of the tub reduces pressure on joints and muscles, creating a more enjoyable yoga experience.
Here are five yoga poses for you to enjoy in the spa!
Tree Pose (Vrikshasana)
This position is great for improving balance and strengthening your legs, ankles, and spine.
From a standing position, shift your weight to your right leg and use your hands to position your left foot on your inner right thigh or knee. Press your left foot against your right leg and point your knee outward. While keeping your core muscles engaged, bring your hands to your chest in a prayer position. Breathe deep and hold for 30 seconds to a minute.
Boat Pose
This pose will strengthen your core, hip flexors, and spine while improving digestion.
Sit in your hot tub with your knees bent. Use your hands to stabilize yourself while leaning backward until your shins are parallel to the ground. Engage your core and raise your arms straight out in line with your shins. Hold this position for a few breaths at a time until you can reach 10 breaths.
Cradle The Baby
This position stretches your legs, hips, and glutes, while also improving hip flexibility.
Take a seat in your hot tub and choose one leg to bring up toward your chest. If you are using your right leg, bring your right foot into the inside of your left elbow. Then, cradle your right knee with the inside of your right elbow. Gently rock the stretch from one side to the other for 30 seconds, then switch legs.
Wave Pose
This pose stretches your spine and increases your balance.
Stand straight up in your hut tub with your feet spread shoulder-width apart. Lift your right arm straight up and lean to the left while kicking your hip out to the right. Look up at your arm and hold for five seconds before switching sides.
Spinal Twist
This position relieves back and hip pain while stretching and strengthening your spine.
Sit in your hot tub with your legs straight. Cross your left leg over your right and pull your left knee toward your chest. Hug your knee with your right arm while rotating your torso to the left and looking over your shoulder. Twist a little further after each deep breath.
